Introduction

Charles Retina Institute offers a two-year subspecialty vitreoretinal surgery fellowship program in association with the Hamilton Eye Institute. Preceptorship is directly supervised by Drs. Steve Charles and Jorge Calzada.

First year of fellowship takes place at the Charles Retina Institute, the Hamilton Eye Insitute, and various Memphis area ambulatory surgery centers and hospitals; it focuses on the clinical diagnosis and medical/surgical management of vitreoretinal diseases, while working closely with Dr. Charles. Retinopathy of prematurity screening and intervention is emphasized as well.

Second year fellowship responsibilities expand to include a senior fellow's clinic at the Charles Retina Institute and clinical staffing of Hamilton Eye Institiute and Veterans Administration clinics, with surgical volume generated from a diverse array of pathology.

The Charles Retina Institute is a private office with state-of-the-art diagnostic and surgical equipment and a full complement of administrative and technical staff. To learn more about the Charles Retina Institute and its fellowship program, please click here.
